Dear Friend,
This month has been very full with a wide variety of events, worship services, and more. Many of my bigger roles on staff with NLCF have kicked into full gear! We started off the month with the Honduras Team Pancake dinner. Obviously, we wanted to raise funds to support our team’s trip, but it also gave the chance for our team to work together as one unit before leaving the country. It ended up being a great success! There were 142 people who came, and we raised over $800, almost 50% more than last year.
Later in the same weekend, we hosted a Super Bowl party and Chili Cookoff as another chance for our students involved in NLCF to be missional and invite their friends who aren’t involved in a church community. We’ve found that many people end up joining NLCF because of a personal invitation to events such as these. Later in the month, I helped lead the first workshop of the 2nd Annual Life After College series, a program I developed last year. We had 16 seniors, which was more than any of the workshops last year! Among many financial topics, we were able to have an insurance salesman come and share about the many ins and outs of car insurance. Around the same time as the Life After College workshop, NLCF began participating in the To Our House homeless shelter program. I was the primary person responsible for our week as a host church, which meant scheduling multiple volunteers for various roles each night we helped. The last evening the men stayed in our building, 130 Jackson, I stayed overnight with them and drove them to the check-in location in Christiansburg the following morning.
After To Our House ended, I served on the leadership team for the largest worship event on campus all year, called vtONE For years, I have loved being able to experience powerful worship with many other campus ministries all under one roof. I decided that this year, I would use my gifts to help serve and put on the event as the stage manager.
Lastly, I’m excited to stay that I will be preaching for the first time at an NLCF Sunday gathering on March 13th at our evening 7:07 pm service! If you can make it out that night, we would be glad to have you join us. Given I will be leading the Honduras trip up until the night before I teach, I seek your prayer over these next few weeks. Please pray that I remain healthy and strong enough to teach on the day after we return. Also, pray that our return flights are on time, and I don’t miss this great opportunity. Next month I will catch you up on our Honduras trip and my sermon (if you are unable to come that night)!
In Christ,
David
