Senior Night 2016: Be Strong & Courageous

This year, I had the chance to plan, organize, and execute our second “Senior Night”.  Basically, we took an entire retreat and packed it into one night of food, fun, memories, worship, teaching, and personal as well as group reflection.  We even had a special visit by the Hokie Bird!

On the night of May 11, 17 seniors and 8 staff headed out to the familiar sights and sounds of Camp Tuk-a-way, home to many Fall Retreats in the past.  There were several goals for the night, one of which being to simply provide a celebratory atmosphere to acknowledge God’s provision, as well as the hard work from the students.  Also, we wanted to open up space in the seniors’ busy year-end schedules to get away and spend an extended time alone with God, being able to reflect on the past several years.  This year’s theme was “Be Strong and Courageous”, taken from Joshua 1.

NLCF Seniors – Class of 2016

I had the chance to give a short sermon on this chapter of Scripture, encouraging our seniors to trust God, remain obedient, and get ready for the next season of life.  For those following my teaching experience, you can download the MP3 from our NLCF website here!
