May- Another School Year Closes

Dear Friend,
It is hard to believe that another school year has finished!  On May 2nd, we hosted the annual Servant Appreciation Dinner, which was a time to genuinely thank all of our student leaders, worship leaders, hospitality teams, and anyone else who has used their gifts to serve the Kingdom through NLCF this year.  We had ~60 servants come and enjoy a delicious meal, followed by a short program.  I had the chance to compile some photos from the year into a memories video that was shown that night.

After exams finished up, I led “Senior Night”– the culmination of the Life After College program.  That night, we had 17 seniors and 8 staff travel out to Camp Tuk-a-way for a night of fellowship, teaching, quiet reflection, worship, and more.  I feel like we achieved our goals of celebrating the faith of the graduates, as well as providing them with guidance as they enter into the next season of their lives.  I gave a sermon on Joshua 1, challenging the seniors to trust God, remain obedient, and prepare themselves.  You can download & listen to the sermon here!  If you’re interested, I wrote a more detailed recap about Senior Night on my blog (here).

The second half of May has been much slower.  I have gotten the chance to slow down and catch up on various tasks that had gotten pushed off during the busy semester schedule.  I helped organize a building work day to catch up on various maintenance tasks in our building, 130 Jackson, like painting, pulling weeds, organizing cabinets, and more.  Our kingdom work can be done more effectively with a well-kept space to meet in!

What am I doing this summer?  The summer season is quite unique when working in campus ministry.  The majority of our congregation becomes scattered across the country.  Last summer, I stayed in Blacksburg, but this summer I will be helping lead the Adirondacks Leadership Training program in upstate New York.  NLCF is taking 8 students and 3 staff to participate in this 8-week long intensive program with other schools from across the country.

I do want to mention that my missions organization, Reliant (the new name for Great Commission Ministries) has launched its new website!  The site is now more streamlined and easier for you to use.  Check out my online profile with reliant here!  For those who have already partnered financially with Reliant, you can go to www.reliant.org/log-in for any updates or modifications to your giving (previously www.mygcm.org).

God has truly worked in amazing ways this year.  As I reflect on all the amazing stories and powerful moments, I remember how thankful I am for you.  Thank you for your prayers, financial support, and other help as I continue to work as a missionary on the campus of Virginia Tech.

In Christ,
David
