July Ministry Update

July- Adirondacks LT

Dear Friend,

It is hard to believe that my time here in New York for the Adirondacks Leadership Training (ADKLT) program is coming to a close.  The time has definitely flown by!  My last day here at Silver Bay will be August 10th, and I will start the trip back to Virginia on Thursday, August 11th.

Each week, I’ve been working in several different areas of the LT program.  Like I mentioned last month, on Wednesdays, I co-lead our Leadership Community through various studies, teachings, and equipping times.  Topics covered on Community days have included vulnerability, confession, balancing faith and your job, taking initiative, evangelism, reflective listening, and more.  On Sundays, I play a vital role in making sure the evening large-group gathering (worship service) is carried out well.  I am in charge of the setup and teardown processes, as well as running the lights for the service.  We’ve had speakers come in and preach from across the country, covering topics such as the Great Commission, leadership in Nehemiah, engaging our culture, etc.  Throughout the rest of the week, I serve as a “staff guide”, amongst other roles, by intentionally discipling one of our Virginia Tech students.  I also meet with other guys in our Leadership Community for accountability and challenge in their walk with God.

When interacting with the YMCA employees, relationships are formed frequently around where you work: the dining hall, front desk, the store, the gym, etc.  Since I spend time volunteering at the front desk of the YMCA every week, I’ve been able to have access to relationships I would otherwise not have.  I’ve been able to set an example for the LT participants of how to work for the Glory of God!

What’s coming up now?  KICKOFF!
As I’ve mentioned before, Kickoff starts the week before classes begin (August 17th) and is packed with activities to foster community and build new friendships and relationships with students.  That week is critical to the growth and success of NLCF for the coming year.

As I finish my time in New York, I feel the tension of being excited for a new school year at Virginia Tech, but at the same time seeing the clear need for Jesus here in New York.  I’m excited to go home, but sad to leave such a beautiful place.  Thank you for your prayers and financial support!

In Christ,
David
