November- Dashing into Thanksgiving
Dear Friend,
The Holidays are upon us! I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving has passed, and Christmas is just weeks away. Even with the students away from Blacksburg for Thanksgiving break, there were still many exciting things to note about November!
2016 Donut Dash 5k
Last month, I asked for prayer over this opportunity to engage our community and raise money for the Honduras Team. Check out the blog post I wrote for NLCF for a more detailed recap, but I am excited to announce that we ended up with 26 runners and over 10 volunteers, raising over $550 towards the NLCF Honduras Missions team!
Hokie Family Thanksgiving
Ally and I were very thankful to get the chance to host a Thanksgiving dinner with the collection of small groups that we oversee: the Hokie Family. What could be more fun than a 24 lb turkey, over 30 people, and tons of sides?! Like most families, we went around the room and had everyone share what they were thankful for. I was humbled to hear many of our students were thankful for the Hokie Family, their Engage Group, or NLCF in general. It meant so much to hear that the community we are fostering and developing is making a difference!
Honduras Team Update
I’ve been busily recruiting for the 2017 Honduras Mission team. In March, our team will travel to Danli, Honduras to share our faith and be a blessing to the local church and community. Because of the opportunity to advise a team of engineering students in my old department this fall, we may get the chance to take measurements and lay the groundwork for a future water access improvement project! Please be praying for the 10+ students interested in going, that their hearts would be prepared, and their financial support would come in quickly.
I hope that you have been able to spend this Advent season excitedly anticipating the coming of Christ. At Christmas, we get to celebrate Christ’s coming as a child, starting God’s Kingdom here on earth. May you experience the hope, peace, love, and joy of Christ this season! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
In Christ,
David
