David’s Dialogues
March- God is moving in Honduras!
Dear Friend,
The past month was quite a journey! I wanted to spend the majority of this update sharing about our trip to Honduras over Virginia Tech’s Spring Break.
Overall, the week was amazing, but there were definitely some challenges along the way. The challenges started about 20 minutes out of Blacksburg when we hit over an hour of traffic on the drive up to Washington DC. Then, when we were checking in for our flights, they overbooked the second flight, and I didn’t have a seat on the second leg of the trip! Thankfully after a lot of prayers and switching seats around, we all eventually made it to Danli, Honduras. Once we finally arrived, I was thankful for a really great team of students. They were probably the best behaved, most flexible team I’ve worked with in the three years of leading the program. This year’s trip had a different feel than in the past, since much of my focus was with the engineering students and the water project in Quiscamotes, a small community on the outskirts of larger town of Danli (check out this link for a video introduction to the water project!). While I was helping a few students with the water project, other members of our team were evangelizing to the families in Quiscamotes where the water project is taking place. Other days throughout the week, we had the chance to visit a kindergarten, two different schools, help support a construction project to benefit a local woman, and evangelize in the neighborhoods around the church. Even though we were only there for a week, we had the chance to invite many people to the local church, with the hopes that they can get connected and then have a lasting relationship with Jesus.

One of my favorite moments was when I got to see one of the guys I have been discipling share the Gospel in Spanish! The same person who I baptized last semester has now grown to the point of utilizing his gift of language to share about Jesus in another country! I was so proud of Jon and how much he’s grown in his relationship with God over the past year and a half. Another amazing story of God’s provision was with one of our evangelism groups. The cluster of the team had visited a woman on the way into Quiscamotes, shared the Gospel with her, and gave away what donations they could give, including a Spanish Bible. At the end of the day, they passed her house again, only to see her sitting outside reading the new Bible she received. As they were passing by, the woman asked for some toothpaste since her family didn’t have any. Sadly, the team was about to decline since at the end of the day everyone is usually completely out of any donations. But after reaching one more time to the bottom of their bag, they found some toothpaste. It was amazing to see such radical examples of God’s provision!

Even though the Honduras trip took up much of my time and focus this month, there were several other highlights from later in the month as well. One of those highlights was a worship night, hosted by one of our bands that has been practicing and developing their skills as worship leaders. It was a great chance to worship together and give some practice and experience to upcoming musicians. I also had the chance to lead the second Life After College workshop in the three-part series. I was excited to see 19 future graduates attend; one of the largest workshops in the three years of doing the program! We focused on how to find a church community after graduating.
As another month closes, it is hard to believe that the school year is about to end and summer is almost here. I’m very thankful for what God has done this year, and I’m excited to see what He does in the last 5 weeks of classes before the semester ends! Thank you for being a part of this with me!!
In Christ,
David
