David’s Dialogues
February- Getting into the semester rhythm!
Dear Friend,
February was quite the busy month! It started off with the annual Pancake Dinner fundraiser for the NLCF Honduras team. We had 145 in attendance and raised $857.01! This was one of our largest events yet since I started them 3 years ago in 2015. The money raised will go to help various individuals on the team, as well as for the various projects our team will be completing while in Danli.

The same weekend as the Pancake Dinner we had the annual Super-Bowl party and Chili Cookoff! This event is a great chance for our students to invite others one step closer to Christian community. Others who are on the outskirts of our church also come to this event, and this year I had the opportunity to get to know one of those people. Events like this are fun, but it is truly exciting to see people come closer into Christian community as a result of them.

Also this past month, we participated in the “To Our House” homeless shelter program. For the past several years, I have helped organize our week of hosting the homeless men from the New River Valley area. I am responsible for coordinating with program leadership, scheduling volunteers for each night, and equipping those volunteers for their various roles.
With the Spring Semester comes the annual Life After College workshop series. I started this program my first year on staff, and have led it ever since. The series consists of 3 workshops, each one designed to focus on different aspects of helping our seniors be more prepared for the world after graduation. The first workshop took place on February 11th, and we talked about various financial topics including budgeting, credit, insurance, taxes, and more!
We closed out the month with a bang, and the annual vtONE Spring Worship event (header picture). I serve on the leadership team in an advisory role for the student leaders across different ministries on campus. The goal of this event each year is to bring the body of Christ together from the Virginia Tech campus and beyond. This year, we moved the event to Burruss Hall (the largest indoor venue on campus) to accommodate the growing attendance!
Lastly, I wanted to update you on the NLCF Honduras Water Project. We’ve made lots of headway this month in preparation for our trip coming up soon. Firstly, we have 14 water filters sponsored! We will complete their construction in-country, and then distribute them to households in the small neighborhood of Los Quiscamotes. Secondly, I have been working to develop a solar-powered water pumping system in order to help one particular family in Quiscamotes (See video below). If the pilot project works for this one family, we have the potential to expand it in order to help the entire community have better water access.
Please be in prayer for Ally and I as we leave for Honduras with our team in just a few days! I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time now. Stay tuned next month for a recap of our trip. Thank you for all you do!
In Christ,
David
