Even though when working in ministry, you take on hundreds of various roles ranging from graphic designer to cook to preacher, there are several focuses I have with NLCF:
Community Gatherings
Community Gatherings are our worship services held on Sundays. I help oversee things at our 11 am service, all the way from hauling our trailer of sound equipment to the student center, leading the unloading and setup process, and all the way to loading the trailer back up and hauling it back to our building, 1521 South Main St. I also make sure everything in the service is on time, flows well, and goes according to plan. If anything goes wrong, I quickly act to make things right!
Discipleship & Coaching
A large part of my job roles includes discipling a group of male leaders in our church. We meet together once a week to help grow their character, as well as their leadership. The group, called a “huddle” is designed to promote both high challenge, as well as high invitation. Since these guys are also leaders in the Engage Group Family that I lead, I help coach them into stronger and more skilled leaders (Engage Group Families are collections of our Engage Group missional Bible studies).
Honduras
I lead our annual spring break Honduras missions team. Even before the trip, I stay busy helping the team prepare for the trip financially (fundraising coaching) as well as spiritually. We travel for a week to Danli, Honduras to visit our sister church, evangelize in the surrounding communities, and help with any projects the church needs at the time.
Technical Support
The college campus is saturated in a digital world. I provide technical support for a variety of platforms we use to minister on campus at Virginia Tech. I maintain the website content, provide server care and maintenance, administrate Google Suite users and accounts, and more.
Teaching/Preaching
There are a variety of settings that teaching (or preaching) is used within NLCF. I help teach in leadership situations and teach on Sunday mornings a few times per year. You can find all my sermons over on the Experience page!
Administration & Financial Oversight
Given my engineering background, I help out with a variety of detail-oriented tasks to help the church run. One of those ways is by overseeing the Finance Team, maintaining accurate records, paying bills, filing reimbursements, generating financial reports, etc.
