David’s Dialogues
January- Busy Start to the New Year!
Dear Friend,
After a restful break, the New Year jumped from 0 to 60 quickly! Things definitely got busy much quicker than I anticipated, but with the busyness comes a fullness of God’s Kingdom work being put into motion on campus at Virginia Tech. Vision is being casted, goals set, and people are moving forward in their faith!
One of the ways we’ve been able to serve our local community this month was by participating in the To Our House men’s homeless shelter program. It was my responsibility to oversee the week, schedule volunteers, coordinate with program leadership, and communicate with our support church who provided meals for the men throughout the week. Each night we had about 12 homeless men spend the night in our building, providing the chance to engage in conversation and build relationship.
As far as our Sunday series go, we started with a short series on the Vision of NLCF, focusing on three pillars of worship team development, intensive men’s discipleship, and missional community growth and multiplication. Those three pillars were paired with a long-term goal of planting a church in 2020 or 2021. We are about to start a sermon series called “Renovate: A practical guide to actually living Good News”. I am humbled to say I was given the opportunity to teach twice this semester, on February 19th and April 2nd. I would love to have you come visit, and you are more than welcome to join us at 11 am in Squires Colonial Hall!
With one of our vision pillars being the growth and multiplication of missional communities, I am excited to say that we launched a new Engage Group this month in our Hokie Family! “Kids at Heart” is our new group that multiplied off of another group that was getting large. Their missional focus is on students who enjoy working with children in various capacities. We got the chance to highlight this new engage group at our leadership training weekend at the end of the month (Learning Community, as we call the weekend, photo in header). During this intensive Friday evening and Saturday, we were able to focus our efforts to move outward this semester. We have a solid community, but are challenging our engage group leaders to step outward, invite their friends, and start having more people enter the Kingdom of God.

Water Project Update: As I’ve mentioned before, I am still working with a team of engineering students from my alma mater, the Biological Systems Engineering department, on a clean water project for Los Quiscamotes, Honduras. We have been moving forward on a design, as well as preparing the various water quality tests and measurements we will perform on our trip in March. Two of the engineering students will be joining the rest of our NLCF team.

This coming month will be busy getting ready for our Honduras trip at the beginning of March! Please continue to pray for me and our team, as well as the water project and people in the communities we will interact with.
In Christ,
David
